Tuesday of Fifth Week of Easter

+ 사도행전 14, 19-28

< 하느님께서 자기들과 함께 해 주신 모든 일을 교회에 보고하였다. >

해설) 복음이 성공적으로 전파된 피시디아의 안티오키아와 이코니온에서 유다교 광신자들이 바오로를 공격하지만, 그들의 광신적 행위가 바오로의 선교 활동을 막지 못합니다. 그들 때문에 여러 번 죽을 고비를 넘기기도 하지만 바오로 사도의 이방인 선교에 대한 열정을 막지는 못합니다.

그 무렵 19 안티오키아와 이코니온에서 유다인들이 몰려와 군중을 설득하고 바오로에게 돌을 던졌다. 그리고 그가 죽은 줄로 생각하고 도시 밖으로 끌어내다 버렸다. 20 그러나 제자들이 둘러싸자 그는 일어나 도시 안으로 들어갔다. 이튿날 그는 바르나바와 함께 데르베로 떠나갔다. 21 바오로와 바르나바는 그 도시에서 복음을 전하고 수많은 사람을 제자로 삼은 다음, 리스트라와 이코니온으로 갔다가 이어서 안티오키아로 돌아갔다. 22 그들은 제자들의 마음에 힘을 북돋아 주고 계속 믿음에 충실하라고 격려하면서, “우리가 하느님의 나라에 들어가려면 많은 환난을 겪어야 합니다.” 하고 말하였다. 23 그리고 교회마다 제자들을 위하여 원로들을 임명하고, 단식하며 기도한 뒤에, 그들이 믿게 된 주님께 그들을 의탁하였다. 24 바오로와 바르나바는 피시디아를 가로질러 팜필리아에 다다라, 25 페르게에서 말씀을 전하고서 아탈리아로 내려갔다. 26 거기에서 배를 타고 안티오키아로 갔다. 바로 그곳에서 그들은 선교 활동을 위하여 하느님의 은총에 맡겨졌었는데, 이제 그들이 그 일을 완수한 것이다. 27 그들은 도착하자마자 교회 신자들을 불러, 하느님께서 자기들과 함께 해 주신 모든 일과 또 다른 민족들에게 믿음의 문을 열어 주신 것을 보고하였다. 28 그리고 제자들과 함께 오래 머물렀다.

19 In those days, some Jews from Antioch and Iconium arrived and won over the crowds. They stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead. 20 But when the disciples gathered around him, he got up and entered the city. On the following day he left with Barnabas for Derbe. 21 After they had proclaimed the good news to that city and made a considerable number of disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch. 22 They strengthened the spirits of the disciples and exhorted them to persevere in the faith, saying, "It is necessary for us to undergo many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God." 23 They appointed presbyters for them in each Church and, with prayer and fasting, commended them to the Lord in whom they had put their faith. 24 Then they traveled through Pisidia and reached Pamphylia. 25 After proclaiming the word at Perga they went down to Attalia. 26 From there they sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work they had now accomplished. 27 And when they arrived, they called the Church together and reported what God had done with them and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. 28 Then they spent no little time with the disciples.

묵상) 바오로와 바르나바는 선교 여행을 마치고 돌아오는 길에 그들이 세운 그리스도교 공동체를 격려하고 안티오키아로 돌아옵니다. 바오로와 바르나바는 선교 여행 중에 하느님께서 함께 해 주셨음을 강하게 체험합니다. 자비로운 하느님께서는 그리스도의 복음 선포를 통한 당신의 구원 사업에 항상 함께 하십니다.

+ 요한 14, 27-31ㄱ

< 내 평화를 너희에게 준다.>

해설) 참 평화는 종말론적 구원 개념으로써 예수님께서 이 세상에 오심으로써 사람들에게 선물로 주어지는 것입니다. 그리스도의 평화는 예수님의 말씀과 함께 사람에게 전달되며 제자들의 복음 선포 안에서 이루어집니다. 그리스도의 평화는 예수 그리스도 안에서 참된 구원과 영원한 생명을 알고 그 희망을 가지는 것입니다.

그때에 예수님께서 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. 27 “나는 너희에게 평화를 남기고 간다. 내 평화를 너희에게 준다. 내가 주는 평화는 세상이 주는 평화와 같지 않다. 너희 마음이 산란해지는 일도, 겁을 내는 일도 없도록 하여라. 28 ‘나는 갔다가 너희에게 돌아온다.’고 한 내 말을 너희는 들었다. 너희가 나를 사랑한다면 내가 아버지께 가는 것을 기뻐할 것이다. 아버지께서 나보다 위대하신 분이시기 때문이다. 29 나는 일이 일어나기 전에 너희에게 미리 말하였다. 일이 일어날 때에 너희가 믿게 하려는 것이다. 30 나는 너희와 더 이상 많은 이야기를 나누지 않겠다. 이 세상의 우두머리가 오고 있기 때문이다. 그는 나에게 아무 권한도 없다. 31 그러나 내가 아버지를 사랑한다는 것과 아버지께서 명령하신 대로 내가 한다는 것을 세상이 알아야 한다.”

Jesus said to his disciples: 27 "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. 28 You heard me tell you, 'I am going away and I will come back to you.' If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I. 29 And now I have told you this before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe. 30 I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me, 31 but the world must know that I love the Father and that I do just as the Father has commanded me."

묵상) 예수님을 사랑하고 있다면 예수님의 가르침을 지킬 것입니다. 예수님을 사랑하는 참 사랑 안에서는 슬픔보다 오히려 기쁨이 솟아날 것입니다. 예수님께서 아버지 하느님께로 가시는 것은 우리가 주 하느님께로 나아가는 길을 완성하시는 것입니다. 그 길로 우리는 예수님과 함께 하느님께로 나아갈 것입니다.

사람들은 자기가 가진 것을 잃어버릴까 불안해하고 사람들로부터 잊혀질까 두려워합니다. 그러나 이 세상의 모든 것은 변하고 사라집니다. 주님만을 원하는 사람은 아무 것도 두려워할 것이 없습니다. 주 하느님은 영원하시며 변함이 없으시고 한결같이 언제나 우리 곁에 계시기 때문입니다. 진정 주님 안에 참 평화가 있습니다.

1. 나는 세상에서 어떤 평화를 찾고 있습니까? 물질적인 것입니까 영적인 것입니까? 살면서 항상 불안하고 두렵다면 왜 입니까? 세상이 주는 평화와 예수님이 주시는 평화에는 어떤 차이가 있습니까? 진정한 평화가 무엇인지 그리고 어떻게 얻어야하는지 잠시 생각에 머물러 보십시오.

2. 나는 예수님을 얼마나 사랑하고 있습니까? 나는 항상 믿음에 대한 어떤 대가를 요구하지는 않습니까? 예수님께서 늘 우리와 함께 하며 우리를 도와줄 성령을 약속하셨습니다. 나는 일상 안에서 언제 성령의 활동을 체험하고 있습니까?

Tuesday of the Fifth Week of Easter or Optional Memorial of St Joseph the Worker

First Reading : Acts 1419-28 Gospel : John 14:27-31

This commemoration was established by Pope Pius XII in 1955. It is a reminder to us that human labour brings dignity to individuals and that work is for the good of everyone. It is also a reminder that even in seemingly mundane work, God is still present and that Jesus, following social norms, would have been trained as a carpenter by Joseph, his guardian. St Joseph is the patron saint of working people.

In our first reading today we see that Saints Paul and Barnabas are still suffering for their preaching but they continue to preach and to give strength to the Christian communities which they visit. Paul also reminds the faithful that believing in Christ will cause hardship as he himself can testify but the reward is worth the suffering.

In the gospel, Jesus gives his peace to the disciples before he leaves them. It is a peace which is not of human origins and therefore is greater and more liberating. It is a peace which this world badly needs but does not want to try. It is for us as Christians to convince the world that this is the only way to true happiness and fulfilment

Prayer : "Lord, may your peace be always with me. May no circumstance, trouble, or vexation rob me of the peace which passes all understanding. You, alone, O Lord, are my Peace. May I always reside in that peace by believing your word and by doing your will.” - Amen

성녀 파나세아 (Saint Panacea)

같은이름 : 파나시아, 파나씨아, 파나케아, 파넥시아

성녀 파나케아(또는 파나세아)는 이탈리아 노바라(Novara) 교구의 과로나에서 태어났다. 그녀의 어머니는 그녀가 아기일 때 세상을 떠났다. 그래서 그녀의 아버지는 재혼을 했는데, 새어머니로 들어온 이는 종교를 싫어하는 사람이었다. 어린 나이임에도 불구하고 성녀 파나케아는 신심이 깊었고, 이는 새어머니의 미움을 사는 계기가 되었다. 결국 그녀는 기도하던 중에 새어머니에 의해 맞아 죽었다. 그녀에 대한 공경은 1867년에 승인되었다. 성녀 파나케아는 파넥시아(Panexia) 또는 파나시아(Panassia)로도 불린다.
