Saturday of the Second Week of Easter

+ 사도행전 6, 1-7

< 성령이 충만한 사람 일곱을 뽑았다. >

해설) 주님의 사도들은 그들에게 맡겨진 복음 선포의 사명에 충실하기를 원합니다. 기도와 복음 선포는 사도들의 기본 사명으로서 영원히 지속될 것입니다. 일곱 부제의 선택은 이방인들에게 그리스도교가 전해지는 데에 큰 역할이 될 것입니다. 사도들은 일곱 부제들에게 안수를 준 후 보조자로서의 책임과 역할을 부여합니다.

1 그 무렵 제자들이 점점 늘어나자, 그리스계 유다인들이 히브리계 유다인들에게 불평을 터뜨리게 되었다. 그들의 과부들이 매일 배급을 받을 때에 홀대를 받았기 때문이다. 2 그래서 열두 사도가 제자들의 공동체를 불러 모아 말하였다. “우리가 하느님의 말씀을 제쳐 놓고 식탁 봉사를 하는 것은 바람직하지 않습니다. 3 그러니 형제 여러분, 여러분 가운데에서 평판이 좋고 성령과 지혜가 충만한 사람 일곱을 찾아내십시오. 그들에게 이 직무를 맡기고, 4 우리는 기도와 말씀 봉사에만 전념하겠습니다.” 5 이 말에 온 공동체가 동의하였다. 그리하여 그들은 믿음과 성령이 충만한 사람인 스테파노, 그리고 필리포스, 프로코로스, 니카노르, 티몬, 파르메나스, 또 유다교로 개종한 안티오키아 출신 니콜라오스를 뽑아, 6 사도들 앞에 세웠다. 사도들은 기도하고 그들에게 안수하였다. 7 하느님의 말씀은 더욱 자라나, 예루살렘 제자들의 수가 크게 늘어나고 사제들의 큰 무리도 믿음을 받아들였다

+ First Reading, Acts 6:1-7

1 As the number of disciples continued to grow, the Hellenists complained against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. 2. So the Twelve called together the community of the disciples and said, "It is not right for us to neglect the word of God to serve at table. 3 Brothers, select from among you seven reputable men, filled with the Spirit and wisdom, whom we shall appoint to this task, 4 whereas we shall devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word." 5 The proposal was acceptable to the whole community, so they chose Stephen, a man filled with faith and the Holy Spirit, also Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicholas of Antioch, a convert to Judaism. 6 They presented these men to the Apostles who prayed and laid hands on them. 7 The word of God continued to spread, and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem increased greatly; even a large group of priests were becoming obedient to the faith.

묵상) 그리스도 공동체가 점점 커지자 내적으로 많은 갈등이 생기게 됩니다. 그래서 사도들은 자기의 직분을 협조자들과 나눕니다. 사도들은 그들의 기본 사명에 충실하고 일곱 부제들은 사도들을 도와주는 역할을 맡게 된 것입니다. 주님의 사도들에게 맡겨진 기본 사명은 기도와 하느님의 말씀을 전하는 일입니다.

+ 요한 6, 16-21

< 제자들은 예수님께서 호수 위를 걸어오시는 것을 보았다. >

해설) 예수님께서는 물 위를 걸어가심으로써 자신의 정체성을 드러내십니다. 예수님께서는 자연 법칙에 구속받지 않으시는 분이시며 오히려 자연을 주관하시는 분입니다. 물 위를 걸으시는 기적은 제자들의 믿음을 시험하는 주님의 여러 기적들을 믿어야 한다는 징표입니다. 하느님께서는 예수님을 통하여 당신의 현존을 드러내십니다.

저녁때가 되자 예수님의 16 제자들은 호수로 내려가서, 17 배를 타고 호수 건너편 카파르나움으로 떠났다. 이미 어두워졌는데도 예수님께서는 아직 그들에게 가지 않으셨다. 18 그때에 큰 바람이 불어 호수에 물결이 높게 일었다. 19 그들이 배를 스물다섯이나 서른 스타디온쯤 저어 갔을 때, 예수님께서 호수 위를 걸어 배에 가까이 오시는 것을 보고 두려워하였다. 20 예수님께서는 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “ 나다. 두려워하지 마라.” 21 그래서 그들이 예수님을 배 안으로 모셔 들이려고 하는데, 배는 어느새 그들이 가려던 곳에 가 닿았다

+ Holy Gospel of the Jesus Christ according to Saint John 6:16-21

When it was evening, 16 the disciples of Jesus went down to the sea, 17 embarked in a boat, and went across the sea to Capernaum. It had already grown dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. 18 The sea was stirred up because a strong wind was blowing. 19 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they began to be afraid. 20 But he said to them, "It is I. Do not be afraid." 21 They wanted to take him into the boat, but the boat immediately arrived at the shore to which they were heading.

묵상) 물 위를 걸으시는 예수님은 풍랑 속에서 두려움에 떠는 제자들에게 용기와 힘을 주시는 분입니다. 거센 파도 속에서 두려워 떠는 제자들에게 용기를 주시는 예수님은 오늘날 우리에게도 같은 용기를 주십니다. 두려워말라고 예수님께서 말씀하십니다. 예수님께서는 우리의 두려움과 고통과 절망 안에 진정 함께하시는 분입니다.

평소에는 열심히 기도하지만 삶의 풍랑과 고통에 휩싸이면 기도도 잊고 애타게 주님만을 찾습니다. 그러나 주님을 찾긴 하지만 당장 눈앞에 주님이 나타나도 알아보지 못할 정도로 우리가 바라보고 있는 것은 우리 자신의 세속적 이익입니다. 우리가 주님을 찾는다면 항상 우리를 돌보고 계신 그분을 진정 만나게 될 것입니다.

[시와 그림] 물 위를 걷는자

물위를 걸으시다.

+ 요한 6,16-21

1. 예수님의 부재 속에서 제자들은 어떤 공포와 두려움에 사로잡혔습니까? 나는 삶 속에서 언제 주님의 부재를 느낍니까? 혹 나도 주님을 떠난 삶 속에서 두려움과 공포로 앞으로 나아가야 할 길을 못 찾고 헤맨 적은 없었습니까? 두려움 때문에 나의 믿음도 자주 흔들리지는 않았습니까?

2. 예수님은 물 위를 걸어 풍랑 속에서 앞으로 나아가지 못하고 어려움을 겪고 있는 제자들에게 다가가신 후, '나다. 두려워하지 마라'하고 위안의 말씀을 하십니다. 예수님의 이 말씀은 제자들에게 어떤 위안을 줍니까? 나 역시 삶 안에서 고통으로 넘어져 있었을 때 주님을 만나 위로받은 체험이 있습니까? 그 때 주님은 내게 어떤 말씀으로 위안을 주셨습니까?

Jesus walks on the Sea of Galilee to the disciples' boat

In the Acts of the Apostles today we see that the number of believers has grown and with it a conflict between two different groups of Jewish-Christians ? the Hellenists and the Hebrews. To help settle the dispute and to make sure that there are enough ministers for the minor matters to allow the disciples to look after their role, they institute the diaconate. They spend time in prayer and then choose seven men on whom they lay their hands to invoke the Holy Spirit ? a gesture which is central to the Ordination Rites of the Church today.

In the gospel, Jesus walks on water to the disciples out on the lake demonstrating that he is Lord of creation and can overcome the natural world and its rules as he wishes. Does the Lord ever seem distant to you? When John recounted the apostles being alone at sea in a storm he described the situation as “dark” . It was dark not only physically but spiritually as well. Although they were experienced fishermen, they were fearful for their lives. The Lord’s sudden presence on the sea only made them more fearful! John says they were frightened. And Jesus had to calm them with a reassuring command: “Do not be afraid because I am here with you!”Aren’t we like the apostles when we experience darkness and adversity? While the Lord may at times seem distant to us, he, nonetheless is constantly present. The scriptures remind us that the Lord is “a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). Whatever storms make beset us, he promises to “bring us to our desired haven” (Psalm 107:29-30). The Lord keeps watch over us at all times, and especially in our moments of temptation and difficulty. Do you rely on the Lord for his strength and help? Jesus assures us that we have no need of fear if we trust in Him and in his great love for us. When calamities or trials threaten to overwhelm you, how do you respond? With faith and hope in God's love, care and presence with you?

Prayer : "Lord, may I never doubt your saving help and watchful presence, especially in times of adversity. Fortify my faith with courage and hope that I may never waver in my trust in you” - Amen

성녀 리드비나 (St. Lydwina)

네덜란드의 스히담 태생인 성녀 리드비나의 부친은 노동자였지만 매우 열심한 신자였다. 나이에 비해 조숙했던 그녀는 12살 무렵부터 청혼이 들어왔지만 평생 동정을 지키기로 결심하고 홀로 동정서원을 발하였다. 16살이 되던 1395년 추운 겨울날 친구들과 함께 얼음 위에서 스케이트를 타다가 부딪혀 넘어지면서 오른쪽 갈비뼈가 부러지는 큰 사고를 당했다. 하지만 제대로 치료를 받지 못하고 누워있는 동안 상처 부위가 곪아 터지고 몸의 일부가 마비되기도 했다. 그 즈음 새로 부임한 신부가 그녀를 방문해 예수님의 수난을 묵상케 되면서 다소 회복되기도 했지만 완쾌되지는 않았다. 병세는 점점 악화되어 몰골은 더 추해졌고, 왼손과 몸의 왼쪽 부분 일부를 제외하고는 마비도 극심해졌다. 게다가 만년에는 눈의 시력까지 잃어 제대로 볼 수조차 없었다. 그녀의 이 특이한 병은 당시 사회에 널리 알려졌고, 마침내 빌리암 6세(William VI) 공작이 의사를 보내 진료케 했지만 아무런 차도가 없었다. 그녀는 거의 20년 동안 아무런 음식도 먹지 못하고 오직 성체와 물만 먹었다고 한다.

극심한 고통에 시달리면서도 기도와 묵상에 전념하며 자신의 고통을 하느님께 봉헌하던 중 그녀에게서 치유의 능력이 나오고 환시를 보고 예언도 하게 되었다. 그녀는 사람들에게 환시 중에 본 연옥의 고통과 천국의 기쁨을 증거했고, 주님의 성인 성녀들과 대화를 나누기도 했다. 사람들은 병상에 누워있는 성녀 리드비나를 만나 하느님께 전구해주기를 청했고, 그녀는 차츰 치유 능력이 있는 거룩한 여인으로 알려지게 되었다.

성녀 리드비나는 1433년 예수 부활 대축일을 지내고 며칠 후 선종하였다. 그 후 그녀의 무덤은 치유 기적을 바라는 많은 이들의 순례지가 되었다. 선종 이듬해인 1434년 그녀의 무덤 위에 경당이 세워졌고, 1890년 3월 14일 교황 레오 13세(Leo XIII)에 의해 성인품에 올랐다. 성녀 리드비나는 스케이트 타는 사람들의 수호성인이자 만성적인 질병으로 고통 받는 이들의 수호성인으로 선포되었다. 준주성범의 저자인 토마스 아 켐피스(Thomas a Kempis)가 그녀의 전기를 기록했다.
