Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

참된 열매 (True Fruit)

오늘은 연중 제27주일입니다. 오늘 독서와 복음의 공통 주제는 참된 열매입니다. 포도밭 주인은 포도밭에 좋은 포도나무를 심습니다. 주인은 소작인들에게 포도밭을 내어주고 나서 포도철에 싱싱한 포도열매를 기대합니다. 그러나 소작인들은 주인에게 참된 열매를 드리지 못하며 그래서 그들은 쫓겨납니다.

제1독서는 이사야 예언서의 말씀으로 그 유명한 '포도밭의 노래'입니다. 주인은 산등성이에 포도밭을 가꿉니다. 포도밭 주인은 포도밭을 일구고 좋은 포도나무를 심습니다. 주인은 포도밭 한가운데에 망대를 쌓고 즙을 짜는 술틀까지 마련해 놓습니다. 포도밭을 열심히 가꾼 주인은 싱싱한 포도송이 열매를 기대합니다. 그런데 포도밭에 온통 들포도가 열린 것입니다. 공들인 포도밭에 엉뚱한 들포도가 덮인 것입니다. 수고한 만큼의 결과가 나지 않았기에 주인은 포도밭을 망그러진 채 내버려둘 것입니다. 참된 열매를 맺지 못한 포도밭은 버려지고 황폐하게 될 것입니다. 참 그리도인은 모두 알찬 열매를 맺어야 할 포도나무들입니다. 참된 열매를 맺지 못하면 모두 버려질 것입니다.

제2독서는 필리피인들이게 보낸 사도 바오로의 편지입니다. 그리스도인은 주님과 함께 항상 기뻐해야 합니다. 참된 그리스도인의 기쁨은 예수 그리스도를 통한 구원의 기쁨입니다. 구원의 기쁨으로 가득 찬 참된 그리스도인은 아무 걱정도 하지 말고 언제나 감사하는 마음으로 기도하며 간절한 소원을 하느님께 청해야 합니다. 그러면 감히 생각할 수도 없는 하느님의 은총과 평화가 참된 그리스도인의 몸과 마음과 영혼 안에 충만할 것입니다. 하느님에 대한 완전한 믿음은 기쁨과 평화를 줍니다. 기쁨과 평화는 하느님의 선물이지만 인간의 노력과 올바른 마음가짐이 있어야 합니다. 하느님께 대한 온전한 신뢰는 참된 기쁨과 평화를 가져다 줄 것입니다.

오늘 마태오 복음의 포도원 비유는 이스라엘의 구원역사를 압축한 내용입니다. 하느님께서는 인류 구원을 위하여 이스라엘 백성을 선택하시고 당신 백성 공동체에 예언자들을 보내십니다. 그런데 이스라엘 백성은 하느님의 종인 예언자들을 배척하며 죽이기까지 합니다. 마침내 하느님께서는 당신의 아들을 보내십니다. 그러자 백성은 아들마저 십자가에 매달아 죽입니다. 그래서 하느님께서는 예수 그리스도를 통하여 새로운 하느님 백성 공동체를 만드시고 하느님 구원 계획의 협력자들이 되게 하십니다. 하느님께서는 이제 새로운 하느님 백성 공동체를 통하여 당신의 구원 계획을 완성하실 것입니다. 참된 그리스도인은 알찬 열매를 맺어야 할 좋은 포도나무들이어야 하며, 제때에 도조를 바치는 정직하고 성실한 소작인들이어야 합니다.

해설) 포도밭 주인은 기름진 산등성이에 포도밭을 가지고 있습니다. 그는 돌을 골라내고 밭을 일구어 좋은 포도나무를 심습니다. 그리고 포도밭 한가운데에 망대를 쌓고 즙을 짜는 술틀까지 마련해 놓습니다. 포도밭 주인은 싱싱한 포도송이가 풍성히 열리기를 기대합니다. 그런데 들포도가 열립니다.

1 내 친구를 위하여 나는 노래하리라, 내 애인이 자기 포도밭을 두고 부른 노래를. 내 친구에게는 기름진 산등성이에 포도밭이 하나 있었네. 2 땅을 일구고 돌을 골라내어 좋은 포도나무를 심었네. 그 가운데에 탑을 세우고 포도 확도 만들었네. 그러고는 좋은 포도가 맺기를 바랐는데 들포도를 맺었다네. 3 자 이제, 예루살렘 주민들아, 유다 사람들아, 나와 내 포도밭 사이에 시비를 가려 다오! 4 내 포도밭을 위하여 내가 무엇을 더 해야 했더란 말이냐? 내가 해 주지 않은 것이 무엇이란 말이냐? 나는 좋은 포도가 맺기를 바랐는데 어찌하여 들포도를 맺었느냐? 5 이제 내가 내 포도밭에 무슨 일을 하려는지 너희에게 알려 주리라. 울타리를 걷어치워 뜯어 먹히게 하고, 담을 허물어 짓밟히게 하리라. 6 그것을 황폐하게 내버려 두어 가지치기도 못 하고 김매기도 못 하게 하여, 가시덤불과 엉겅퀴가 올라오게 하리라. 또 구름에게 명령하여 그 위에 비를 내리지 못하게 하리라. 7 만군의 주님의 포도밭은 이스라엘 집안이요, 유다 사람들은 그분께서 좋아하시는 나무라네. 그분께서는 공정을 바라셨는데 피 흘림이 웬 말이냐? 정의를 바라셨는데 울부짖음이 웬 말이냐?

1 Let me now sing of my friend, my friend's song concerning his vineyard. My friend had a vineyard on a fertile hillside; 2 he spaded it, cleared it of stones, and planted the choicest vines; within it he built a watchtower, and hewed out a wine press. Then he looked for the crop of grapes, but what it yielded was wild grapes. 3 Now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and people of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard: 4 What more was there to do for my vineyard that I had not done? Why, when I looked for the crop of grapes, did it bring forth wild grapes? 5 Now, I will let you know what I mean to do with my vineyard: take away its hedge, give it to grazing, break through its wall, let it be trampled! 6 Yes, I will make it a ruin: it shall not be pruned or hoed, but overgrown with thorns and briers; I will command the clouds not to send rain upon it. 7 The vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the people of Judah are his cherished plant; he looked for judgment, but see, bloodshed! for justice, but hark, the outcry!

해설) 참 그리스도인은 하느님께 대한 완전한 믿음으로 아무 걱정도 하지 말고 언제나 감사하는 마음으로 기도하고 간구하며 간절한 소원을 하느님께 청해야 합니다. 그러면 감히 생각할 수도 없는 하느님의 은총과 평화가 예수 그리스도를 믿는 참된 그리스도인의 몸과 마음과 영혼 안에 풍성히 내릴 것입니다.

형제 여러분, 6 아무것도 걱정하지 마십시오. 어떠한 경우에든 감사하는 마음으로 기도하고 간구하며 여러분의 소원을 하느님께 아뢰십시오. 7 그러면 사람의 모든 이해를 뛰어넘는 하느님의 평화가 여러분의 마음과 생각을 그리스도 예수님 안에서 지켜 줄 것입니다. 8 끝으로, 형제 여러분, 참된 것과 고귀한 것과 의로운 것과 정결한 것과 사랑스러운 것과 영예로운 것은 무엇이든지, 또 덕이 되는 것과 칭송받는 것은 무엇이든지 다 마음에 간직하십시오. 9 그리고 나에게서 배우고 받고 듣고 본 것을 그대로 실천하십시오. 그러면 평화의 하느님께서 여러분과 함께 계실 것입니다.

Brothers and sisters: 6 Have no anxiety at all, but in everything,by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. 7 Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 Keep on doing what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me. Then the God of peace will be with you.

< 주인은 다른 소작인들에게 포도밭을 내줄 것입니다. >

해설) 주님께서는 이스라엘의 구원을 위해 많은 예언자들을 보내지만, 이스라엘 백성은 예언자들을 배척하고 죽입니다. 그래서 주님께서 당신의 아들을 보내십니다. 그러나 백성들과 원로들은 하느님의 아들을 십자나무에 매달아 죽여 버립니다. 그러나 주님께서는 당신의 아들을 다시 일으키시어 모퉁이의 머릿돌이 되게 하십니다.

그때에 예수님께서 수석 사제들과 백성의 원로들에게 말씀하셨다. 33 “다른 비유를 들어 보아라. 어떤 밭 임자가 ‘포도밭을 일구어 울타리를 둘러치고 포도 확을 파고 탑을 세웠다.’ 그리고 소작인들에게 내주고 멀리 떠났다. 34 포도 철이 가까워지자 그는 자기 몫의 소출을 받아 오라고 소작인들에게 종들을 보냈다. 35 그런데 소작인들은 그들을 붙잡아 하나는 매질하고 하나는 죽이고 하나는 돌을 던져 죽이기까지 하였다. 36 주인이 다시 처음보다 더 많은 종을 보냈지만, 소작인들은 그들에게도 같은 짓을 하였다. 37 주인은 마침내 ‘내 아들이야 존중해 주겠지.’ 하며 그들에게 아들을 보냈다. 38 그러나 소작인들은 아들을 보자, ‘저자가 상속자다. 자, 저자를 죽여 버리고 우리가 그의 상속 재산을 차지하자.’ 하고 저희끼리 말하면서, 39 그를 붙잡아 포도밭 밖으로 던져 죽여 버렸다. 40 그러니 포도밭 주인이 와서 그 소작인들을 어떻게 하겠느냐?” 41 “그렇게 악한 자들은 가차 없이 없애 버리고, 제때에 소출을 바치는 다른 소작인들에게 포도밭을 내줄 것입니다.” 하고 그들이 대답하자, 42 예수님께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “너희는 성경에서 이 말씀을 읽어 본 적이 없느냐? ‘집 짓는 이들이 내버린 돌, 그 돌이 모퉁이의 머릿돌이 되었네. 이는 주님께서 이루신 일, 우리 눈에 놀랍기만 하네.’ 43 그러므로 내가 너희에게 말한다. 하느님께서는 너희에게서 하느님의 나라를 빼앗아, 그 소출을 내는 민족에게 주실 것이다.”

Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders of the people: 33 "Hear another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a tower. Then he leased it to tenants and went on a journey. 34 When vintage time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to obtain his produce. 35 But the tenants seized the servants and one they beat, another they killed, and a third they stoned. 36 Again he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones, but they treated them in the same way. 37 Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking, 'They will respect my son.' 38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance.' 39 They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. 40 What will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes?" 41 They answered him, "He will put those wretched men to a wretched death and lease his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce at the proper times." 42 Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the Scriptures: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes? 43 Therefore, I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit."

주님께서는 온 세상을 창조하여 인간이 다스리도록 내어주십니다. 언젠가는 기쁨과 희망으로 힘써 가꾼 이 세상을 원래의 주인이신 주님께 돌려드려야 합니다. 그러기 위해서 우리는 주님의 뜻에 맞춰 살아가야 합니다. 이 세상의 주인이 주님이심을 아는 사람은 항상 감사하며 살 것이며, 그러면 주님은 영원한 하느님 나라도 우리에게 내어주실 것입니다.

포도밭 소작인의 비유

1. 하느님께서는 나에게 어떤 포도밭을 맡기셨습니까? 내게 맡기신 나의 가정, 이웃, 사회, 신앙 공동체라는 포도밭을 나는 어떻게 가꾸고 있으며 어떤'소출'을 드리려 노력합니까? 풍성하고 좋은 열매를 얻기 위해 어떤 노력을 해야 합니까?

2. 하느님께서 당신 것을 찾으러 오실 때 나는 무엇을 내어 드릴 수 있습니까? 주인인 하느님께서 맡겨놓으신 것들을 마치 내 것처럼 함부로 사용하지는 않았습니까? 마땅히 내 놓아야할 소출의 일부를 내어놓지 않고 내 것으로 만들려 집착하지는 않았습니까? 하느님께 당연히 돌려드려야 할 것은 무엇입니까?

The Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Isaiah 5:1-7 / Philippians 4:6-9 / Matthew 21:33-43

Through the Prophet Isaiah in the first reading the Lord speaks of a vineyard which he planted and which has yielded bad fruit and so now the Lord is going to let the vineyard be destroyed and overrun. The vineyard represents all the good the Lord had done for his people but, instead of being a people of deepening faith and worship, they sinned against him and committed evil, failing to truly believe in or worship him. As was so often the case in Old Testament times, when the nation sinned against God they were overrun by others who led them into captivity, just as the vineyard is overrun when the protective enclosures are removed.

In the gospel, we have another parable concerning a vineyard. In this parable, a landowner prepares the ground and plants his vines before leasing the vineyard to tenants and then going abroad. Seeing the man as an absentee landlord, the tenants try to take over ownership of the vineyard by beating the owner’s messengers and eventually killing his son and heir. The parable was very much directed at the chief priests and elders who fall into the Lord’s trap at the end of the story and so condemn themselves. Many of the prophets had been treated badly by generations of chief priests and elders who did not like the message being preached, and now they were about to kill the Son of God himself. The chief priests and elders had forgotten that everything belonged to God and they were simply his stewards but, in their own way, they had acted as if he was an absentee landlord and had made themselves the focus of the religious practice. Those who will produce the fruit are the new Christian movement which will be headed by the apostles who will take over from those who have failed the people and God. We are reminded that while we may live in the Lord’s vineyard here on earth we still owe our homage to God. We may try at playing gods but it will get us nowhere if we ignore the one true God from whom all things come and to whom everything belongs.

The second reading comes from the closing section of the letter to the Philippians, and in the passage St Paul tells the Philippians to pray to God if there is anything they need. They are to ask in prayer but they should also thank God and keep before their minds everything that is pure and noble. If they do this, then the peace of God will be with them in all that they do.

God of wisdom, may we truly understand not only the need to sow seeds, but also to work together to gather. Amen.

성녀 펠라지아(Saint Pelagia)

간혹 마르가리타(Margarita)라고도 불리는 성녀 펠라기아(또는 펠라지아)는 미모가 뛰어난 안티오키아의 무희였다. 그녀는 안티오키아 시노드 중 에데사(Edessa)의 논누스(Nonnus) 주교의 주의를 끌게 되었는데, 그 다음날 그녀는 논누스 주교의 강론을 듣고 크게 마음을 돌려 세례받기를 청하였다. 그 후 그녀는 자신의 모든 재산을 논누스 주교에게 바치면서 가난한 이들에게 주라고 부탁한 뒤 남장을 하고 안티오키아를 떠났다. 그녀는 예루살렘의 올리베트 산의 한 동굴에서 은수자가 되었는데 ‘수염 없는 수도자’로 널리 알려졌다. 그녀가 여성임이 판명된 때는 장례 때였다고 한다.
